Chandra Taal or India’s moon lake is a barren but beautiful lake situated at about 14,000 feet in the Lahul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh in India. It’s a stunning lake surrounded by barren, lofty mountains and for every trekker & campers – an affair of a lifetime. If you haven’t been here you haven’t been anywhere. Period. You need both excellent motoring skills and physical stamina and strength to reach here. Chandra Taal is accessible from both Batal as well as Kunzum Pass in the summer months. The road is motorable to a certain point and thereafter you have to walk to the lake (about 3-4 kms). If you have an suv, you will need to park it (safely)much before and then walk to the lake or bike it to the closest point after which you have to walk . You can stay overnight at the base camp and walk to the lake early in the morning as well – strongly recommend an overnight stay to get the real feel of wilderness. These are nice but basic tents and have make shift loo’s at a distance – but overall comfortable. The view is stunning so dont forget to pack in your best camera – you will be clicking all throughout the journey I promise. Put some pictures below- enjoy & get packing!!
